Analysing a college magazine

Looking at these magazine covers I would straight away notice that the national student magazine would be aimed at my target audience along with the magazine called soup. This is because it had all the topics in which I found my audience were interested in featured on the front of this cover including music, film, web and many more. Not to mention this magazine cover looks quite playful and has various different colours in which my audience had already said they wanted to improve on. You can also recognise by looking at this that it is aimed at college students as the people who are featured on this magazine are quite young and are dressed like college students.

From my research I found that the term featured on this front cover “Be your own pet is known as was a four-piece punk/garage rock group from Nashville, Tennessee, USA, which may have been the reason why they were dressed in this clothing and have used four models to resemble this type of band. They have used a great deal of colour and different fonts however have done this too much. This magazine cover looks very minimal for pictures and done not promote/ advertise in the correct ways to capture attention as it only very basically states using wording.

This magazine cover soup correctly targets young students; this is because they have used the term ingredients in a playful way to draw attention to artistic people. This appears to be quite a playful magazine using the idea of food and cooking as a way of cooking/ creating art work. This appears to be for readers who may be interested in artistic work such as graphics, painting, photography or illustrations as many of these are the most featured articles. They have also used the idea of an amplifier to create an oven like setting for the cover. This may also suggest that it may be aimed towards younger students as an audience who are interested in music. They have clearly stated in bold writing above this magazine that it is a student magazine which then targets its main audience. This would be very suitable for my audience for a college magazine as they have reached the target audience quite successfully in a creative and artistic way, in which most of the featured articles appeared to be what my audience wanted to read on a college magazine the most. This magazine does lack images but the graphic which is used to attract the viewer compensates for the lack of advertisements. They have also used bright colours in which my audience said they wanted to improve a magazine and the colour red has been used as this stands out quite brightly against the black amplifier and draws immediate attention.
